Agitated Glass Nutsche Filter (ANFD)

Advanced Solid-Liquid Separation & In-Situ Cake Processing

The Agitated Glass Nutsche Filter (ANFD) by Goel Glass is an engineered, hermetically sealed filtration system designed for batch-wise solid-liquid separation, displacement washing, re-slurrying, and vacuum convection drying in a single contained envelope. Fabricated from premium Borosilicate Glass 3.3 and virgin PTFE wetted components, the ANFD provides unmatched chemical resistance against corrosive mineral acids, harsh solvents, and reactive intermediates while allowing continuous visual monitoring of crystallization, cake formation, and solvent breakthrough.

Operating under regulated vacuum or slight inert positive pressure, the fully enclosed design eliminates atmospheric emissions, protects operators from potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and eliminates batch contamination risks in strict cGMP kilo-lab, pilot-plant, and high-purity chemical environments.

Construction & Technical Architecture

The filtration unit comprises a heavy-wall Borosilicate 3.3 process cylinder equipped with single or double jackets for thermal control, allowing crystallization cooling or heated convection drying of wet cakes. A precision-machined PTFE perforated support plate secures composite mesh or woven filter cloths with multi-point bolting rings for rapid filter medium replacement.

The agitator assembly incorporates high-torque, chemical-grade solid PTFE bi-directional blades mounted on a PTFE-sheathed stainless steel core shaft. The motorized drive with variable frequency control (VFD) and sanitary mechanical seal enables bidirectional rotation: clockwise operation creates downward axial smoothing and consolidation of cracks in the cake during filtration, while counter-clockwise motion facilitates intensive re-slurrying, washing, and controlled mechanical cake discharge.

Unit Process Operations

  • Vacuum / Inert Filtration: Slurry introduction under regulated vacuum or nitrogen inerting, yielding uniform cake formation on the micro-mesh filter membrane.
  • Displacement Cake Washing: Controlled wash solvent distribution across the surface of the cake without channeling, ensuring maximum mother-liquor displacement.
  • Agitated Re-Slurrying: Lowering and rotating the PTFE impeller to completely resuspend the cake in fresh solvent for thorough extraction of impurities.
  • Cake Smoothing & Compression: Gentle reverse compaction to seal shrinkage cracks, channeling pathways, and reduce residual moisture content.
  • In-Situ Convection Drying: Jacketed thermal heat transfer combined with nitrogen purge and continuous vacuum desolventization.
  • Assisted Cake Discharge: Manual lowering mechanism or hydraulic system lowering the bottom plate for rapid, sterile product harvesting.

Engineering Advantages

  • Unobstructed 360° Visual Monitoring: Real-time clarity into slurry dynamics, cake cracking, liquid clarity, and filtration kinetics.
  • Near-Universal Corrosion Resistance: Pure Borosilicate 3.3 and FDA-compliant PTFE wetted parts withstand aggressive acids, halogens, and organics without metallic leaching.
  • Hermetic Containment: Zero VOC release, full containment of hazardous substances, and operator safety under inert closed conditions.
  • Flexible Turnkey Configurations: Available in nominal volumes from 10 L to 200 L with heating jackets, hydraulic bottom lowering, explosion-proof motor drives, and instrumentation packages.
